Former Bangladesh speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury arrested – Asia News Network

by The Tamesis

April 7, 2026

Dhaka – (DB) DMP chief Shafiqul Islam confirmed this to The Daily Star this morning.

“She has been taken to the DB office,” he said.

According to the official website of the Bangladesh Parliament, Shilin served as Speaker from April 30, 2013 until his resignation on September 2, 2024.

After the collapse of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, several cases were filed against party leaders across the country.

A case was filed against Shireen on August 27 in connection with the death of Muslim Uddin, a jeweler in Rangpur during the July uprising.

However, DB has not disclosed the specific case in which she was arrested.
