Hanoi ——The 16th National Assembly re-elected Tran Thanh Man as Chairman of the 16th National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
After opening its first session at the National Assembly Building in Hanoi on Monday morning, the legislature held a closed session to discuss personnel issues, including the election of a chairperson.
Subsequently, the Congress passed a resolution to elect a chairman with the unanimous support of all representatives present.
A total of 491 representatives with voting rights approved the resolution, accounting for 98.2% of all members.
According to the resolution, Tran Thanh Man, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Chairman of the 15th National Assembly, and representative of the 16th National Assembly, will continue to serve as Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 16th term.
The resolution will take effect immediately upon passing.
Chairman Tran Thanh Van was sworn in at the conference and swore: “Under the sacred yellow star of the motherland, in front of the National Assembly and voters nationwide, as Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, I solemnly swear to be absolutely loyal to the motherland, the people and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and promise to work hard to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to me by the party, the country and the people.”
Tran Thanh Man was born on August 12, 1962 in Thanh Xuan Commune, District A, Chau Thanh, Hau Giang Province, Mekong Delta Province.
Jing ethnic group, joined the party on August 25, 1982. Bachelor’s degree in political theory and PhD in economics.
He is currently a member of the Political Bureau of the 13th and 14th CPC Central Committee, served as Secretary of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee (12th Party Committee), and served as a member of the Party Central Committee for many terms.
He also served as a member of the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th Congress.
Previously, he served as Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front from July 2017 to March 2021, and then served as Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly from April 2021 to May 2024.
In May 2024, at the seventh session of the 15th National Congress, he was elected as the Chairman of the National Assembly for the first time and has served in this position since then.
