“This summer, as before, I spent my day at Sommerbad Kreuzberg, affectionately known as Prinzenbad.
There, I photographed young women who, like me, chose to spend the summer in this iconic Berlin outdoor pool. To me, Prinzenbad is not just a swimming pool, but a place full of memories: memories from my childhood and a version of Berlin, which existed before the matcha latte, Harry Styles and worthless rent.
Nowhere else can evoke my intense feeling and nostalgia for summer, like a group of women lying in the sun in the public swimming pool. There are gossip and laughter, conversations about careers, babies and partners. Swimming with friends is like freedom for me. This brought me back to those countless six-week school holidays – endless friendships, greasy fingers of fries, chlorine in the eyes and the smell of sunscreen.
