Chase Sui Wonders attended her first Met Gala on Monday wearing a lilac McQueen gown inspired by the ancient Roman frescoes she encountered during a trip to Pompeii. As she told Chloe and Chioma on today’s show through, Her “fashion is art” look featured Tiffany jewelry on top and a jumpsuit underneath, making the completely see-through dress perfect for photos. She arrived at Carpet at 5:30 p.m., walked through the Egyptian wing with its notorious train traffic, and completely missed the burrata – it took her over an hour to get to her table.
Her highlights of the night were numerous. Emily Blunt rescued her from a hedge after her dress got stuck. A trip to the bathroom led to Tessa Thompson loudly ripping off her artificial nails; Wonders caught up with A$AP Rocky on the dance floor during Stevie Nicks’ surprise performance, when he accidentally stepped on the train of her dress; a sliced radish flew from her plate and fell into Janelle Monáe’s CD-ROM nipple cover. “We all laughed about it afterwards,” Wanders said.
Chloe and Chioma also shared their own reports from the night. Nnadi sat next to Margiela creative director Glenn Martens, who was updating Rihanna’s fitting information on his phone. Malle wore a persimmon-colored dress designed by young American designer Colleen Allen, which was inspired by the paintings of Frederic Leighton Burning June. Listen to the full conversation above.
