Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission tracking another US$2bil in 1MDB funds – Asia News Network

Putrajaya – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is pursuing another US$2 billion (RM7.9 billion) related to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal and will recover the funds by the end of 2027.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the money is believed to be linked to several individuals who still hold assets and funds linked to the overseas scandal.

“We hope to recover another $2 billion, which will be another hurdle,” he said at a press conference on Wednesday (May 6).

Azam said the Anti-Corruption Commission has recovered RM31.3 billion, or 74.5% of the RM42 billion misappropriated by 1MDB, which is a major achievement.

“Our commitment to resolving the challenges in the 1MDB case since July 3, 2015 is historic.

“About 10 years have passed since those involved came to court. The focus now is on recovering the money,” he said.
