It’s a beautiful day and I wish the world had a little more Alber Elbaz.
More fully embodying the joie de vivre, wisdom, intuition, empathy and spontaneous flair that Elbaz brings to fashion. He applied this idea to women’s lifestyle. discussion behind it. He just wants to make complex things simple and enjoyable.
It has been five years since Elbaz tragically passed away from Covid 19 at the American Hospital in Paris. Five years is a long time, but his approach is still relevant today. His clothes are still vibrant in the closet and are used as a favorite failsafe for the evening. They were stored in museums and archives and stolen by daughters and granddaughters.
Speaking to Nicole Phelps backstage ahead of the Schiaparelli ready-to-wear show in March, Daniel Roseberry recalled Alber’s qualities. He’s thinking about the impression he made on himself in the 1990s: “His love for women was legendary,” he says. While designing the collection, Roseberry suddenly thought of Alber’s sculptural single-seam dresses. But more broadly, it was the attention and skill that flowed from his studio and atelier to the Lanvin shows during the 14 years Alber spent in the house.
