After all, there’s no one better suited for the job than her, as she worked with costume designer Patricia Field on the first film’s costumes in 2006. “I knew I was the best person for the job, and having that historical perspective really helped,” Rogers said. “It feels like you’re back at summer camp with people you miss and want to see again.”

Her introduction to the new film? Building on the energy and look of the original while also giving fans something completely unexpected. “The DNA of the first movie is so strong,” Rogers said. “I wanted to make my point.”
Rogers is lucky to have a lot of strong characters to play. For Runway editor Miranda Priestley (Streep), the fashion focus was clear from the start: Rogers wanted clothes that immediately conveyed strength and power. “Obviously, a powerful woman like this [Miranda] There’s going to be a very strong silhouette,” Rogers said. “She doesn’t need a lot of embellishment…With an actress like Meryl, you don’t embellish them.
By the way: Miranda wore the rather controversial Valentino Rockstud shoes TDWP2 Trailer? It wasn’t Rodgers’ idea. “I wasn’t there the day they shot that scene, they just put the shoes on,” she said. “I thought it was out of character for Miranda to wear Rockstud, but they liked the look of it. When I saw the fuss about it, I thought, ‘I’m innocent!'”
Equally eye-catching are the costumes Rogers created for Emily Charlton (Blunt), who now holds a senior position at a major fashion house. “Emily’s character is very witty and her costume had to have the edge of the first movie,” Rogers said. “We spent the whole day shopping at 21st Century and snatched up pieces by Vivienne Westwood, Rick Owens, and Margiela.”
