Charli XCX was nothing short of a work of art tonight. The pop superstar stepped out at the 2026 Met Gala in a Saint Laurent gown made of silk, tulle and resin and embellished with a fleur-de-lis pattern.
The dress is a reference to the moody, punk style of one of Yves Saint Laurent’s most famous collections, the Spring/Summer 1988 collection. iris “On the embroidered jacket,” Charli said of the look, designed by Anthony Vaccarello. “Tonight my dress had an iris sewn into the center that was made of resin. We tried to reflect that in the makeup by using more sheer and translucent tones to reflect the resin.”

Speaking of glam, Charli worked with makeup artist Ana Takahashi to create a more subdued look than her past glam looks. “I would describe it as lived in, effortless, just a touch of color,” Charli told Fashion. The look was created by YSL Beauty, which she describes as “easy to wear day or night and perfect for the lifestyle I like.” Hairstylist Matt Benns styled her hair into an ultra-patterned updo.
The iris is a symbol of courage and hope – Van Gogh’s masterpiece evokes the cycles of vitality, decay and life itself.
