A Beginner’s Guide to Crystal Healing—Just in Time for 2026

People believe that healing crystals have qualities that can help them transcend and transform their emotions. Some even believe they can help relieve headaches, eliminate negative emotions, cleanse our chakras, enhance communication, and promote a calm atmosphere. So as we enter a new season and year, now is the perfect time to consider how we can use them as tools to refresh the energy of our homes and personal spaces. Consider this a magical opportunity to shake off the staleness of fall. That was the vibe last season!

I have always had a thing for crystals (my first dream career as a child was to be a gemologist). Not only are they beautiful to look at, but their effectiveness is unparalleled. Whenever I stand next to the giant amethyst geode at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, a wave of peace engulfs me. Therefore, I have worn an amethyst pendant for years to help ease my anxiety and promote relaxation. I’m a firm believer in their benefits – so here’s how crystal healing can help you 2026.

Why are crystals considered a healing tool?

Chelsea Selby, owner and founder of Witch Baby Soap, explains that the effects of crystals are subconscious, but effective. “It’s a tiny powerhouse in the background that activates or even clears certain energies in your auric field,” she says. “As we walk through life, we don’t just walk through a physical environment, we walk through an energetic environment. Sometimes, like picking up dirt from a shoe, we pick up heavy or negative energy, which causes energy blockages and stagnation.” She adds that crystals can also “help clear any energy that is holding you back from achieving your highest good.”

How to use crystals at home

Placing crystals in your home can help change airflow and make your space feel more comfortable. Corbin Chamberlin, a magical practitioner and owner of Sage & Salt perfumery, has done crystal curation for “some of the largest companies in the world,” he said, including everything from palm stones used by marketing teams to a 12,000-pound quartz installation anchored in the company’s lobby.

Chamberlain says, “The entrance to a home or office sets the tone. It’s the arrival point for people, conversations, and whatever they bring with them. I like to think of it as a place that quietly establishes boundaries.” He recommends black tourmaline for entrances: This stone can be used to ward off evil spirits and provide protection, which is necessary when people enter our personal space.

“The common area has a collective energy,” he continued. “They are places where people gather, talk and pass by, so stones placed here tend to affect the overall feel of a home or office.” For this purpose, he recommends clear quartz as the best crystal. “It works well in these spaces because it is neutral and amplifies, it accepts the intention of the environment rather than overpowering it,” he explains. “In professional settings, citrine can add warmth and brightness. If a space feels heavy or overstimulated, smoky quartz can help bring things back to earth.”
