Manila – Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. must be held accountable for flood control anomalies, just like his father and namesake President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
“One of the key issues in the 1986 opposition to the Marcos dictatorship was corruption, the looting of the state treasury. The same issue was raised against the sons of the Marcos dictator in the flood control scandal,” Bayan President Teddy Cassinho told reporters on the sidelines of a protest marking the 40th anniversary of the People Power Revolution.
“[Marcos Jr.] One must take responsibility for this. This is the right position because the son’s responsibilities will be those of the father 40 years ago. “Cassino added.

Marcos Jr. launched a crackdown on anomalies in flood control and infrastructure projects during his fourth State of the Nation address last July.
The House and Senate of Congress launched separate investigations into the scandal, and Malacañang ordered the establishment of an independent commission on infrastructure in September last year to lead the investigation.
Since then, only 26 people have been detained on graft and corruption charges related to projects in Mindoro Oriental, Davao Occidental and Bulacan, including former senator Bong Revilla and government contractor Sarah Discaya.
Meanwhile, former House Appropriations Chairman and resigned Akobi Cole party-list Rep. Zaldy Co and his six co-defendants remain at large.
“We are outraged that, months after the flood scandal came to light, the investigation has effectively ceased. There has been a whitewash, there has been a cover-up. Key players, masterminds, big fish [are] Leave,” Casino stressed.
“Marcos was front and center of the flood control anomaly. He was the one who prepared billions, hundreds of billions of flood control budgets. He was the one who allowed lawmakers to insert additional budgets. And he actually received kickbacks, there are several testimonies to prove that,” he added.
The company accused Marcos of orchestrating the kickback scheme, but Malacañang later denied the accusation, insisting that Marcos was the one who exposed the scandal. /jpv
