This coming weekend, Valentine’s Day will mark our annual “official” day of romance. us like Love, especially the high-profile, Hollywood kind — and if the past year’s press tour has proven anything, it’s this: Bromance is officially booming.
Now, male co-stars and friends are more affectionate than ever, and there’s a refreshing lack of toxic masculinity in the public eye. Remember when straight men used to be afraid of things like hugs? Now, red carpets and media interviews are so full of male chemistry that you can almost taste the pheromones.
Discussions of bromance reached new heights earlier this year when fierce competition Fame reaches its peak. With every interview co-stars Hudson Williams and Connor Story do, their relationship seems to be growing closer — they even grace us with a sensitive fight or intense eye contact. These are more than just two actors hired and paid to get along: their chemistry is palpable even across the screen. “We just FaceTime or call each other randomly and constantly, and that’s how consistent I am during this time,” Williams said of Story.
Nicholas Hoult and David Coronthwaite seemed to be feeling the same co-star chemistry recently while promoting their movie. superman last year’s movie. Coronthwaite said Hoult was “the kind of actor I wanted to be”; Holt once described Coronthwaite’s embrace as “warm and safe”. I have yet to hear these compliments from a passionate lover, let alone a co-worker.
Seeing men baring their emotions, wearing their hearts on their sleeves – or on their chiseled arms, like stranger things Co-starring Joe Keery and Gaten Matarazzo. On screen, their characters Steve and Dustin are best friends: “You die, I die.” Off screen, however, the stars are nearly inseparable, igniting a true modern bromance. “It makes me sad that I may never work with him again,” Geary said.
While full-on bromances may be on the rise more than ever, a handful of Hollywood duos were perfecting the art of being inseparable long before the practice became popular. Take George Clooney and Brad Pitt, or Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, for example, they all seem to play together as easily as they work together. The same goes for rappers like Tyler, the Creator and A$AP Rocky: Tyler even calls A$AP his “work husband.”
So this Valentine’s Day, we celebrate love in all its forms—but especially Men love. Okay, wait: maybe men don’t need to be celebrated more. . . But you know what we mean: No more men saying “not gay,” and no more men giving each other shameless compliments, loving hugs, and even kisses.
Here are more of the best bromances going on in Hollywood.
