I’ve always thought of choosing a stylist like a gamer choosing their avatar – I call it “choosing your warrior”. Our stylists represent our clients and protect them. We can push and nurture at the same time, with the goal of bringing beauty, art, and soul to the forefront. I understand that good styling has a heartbeat of its own – a sense of energy felt by the person wearing the look and everyone who sees it. I love being Catherine’s warrior. I love finding a piece that matches her elegance and brilliance. It’s both a badge of honor and armor as I find my voice in this noisy industry.
Not surprisingly, she never cared about the designer she wore, what season it was, or whether it had been worn before. Seeing the outpouring of love across the globe since her death, it’s clear her authenticity was universally felt. Catherine inspires us in a world that often fails us. To me, this is her greatest gift—even greater than her acting: her unique ability to make us fall in love with her, and in doing so, make us feel less alone.
As much as I cherish being Catherine’s warrior, I only wish I could have told her that she was mine. In an industry built on the principles of new, present, next, She displayed unparalleled loyalty and always made it known that she was grateful. Unlike much of the world we experience today, Catherine represents true kindness, warmth, love, humor and joy. It poured out of her. Wherever she went, she made people feel special and noticed. She was a nurturer, a trait reflected in the many beloved characters she played over the years.
