Gleneagles Hospital emergency wing to treat infections, traffic injuries

The unit is a 19-bed specialist facility.

Gleneagles Hospital in Chennai has opened its emergency department, a rapid treatment facility where the time from visit to decision is less than 30 minutes.

The hospital said the new Emergency Department (ED) is a purpose-built, 19-bed facility designed for rapid triage and treatment and is designed to quickly and accurately manage large volumes of acute cases.

It includes 18 standard acute care beds and one dedicated isolation bed to enhance infection control and enable the management of infectious disease emergencies, including sepsis and
Airborne infections, it added.

It is also supported by on-site diagnostics such as portable bedside X-rays for immediate imaging of the chest, extremities and abdomen without transporting the patient, and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for real-time bedside assessment.

The Gleneagles facility was also unveiled in conjunction with Tambaram Municipal Police, who said the facility ensures rapid emergency care for traffic injuries.

Samay Singh Meena, deputy commissioner of police, Chennai, said 2,016 accidents occurred in the city, followed by Tambaram with 995 accidents.
