Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning have a lot in common: genetics and prolific children’s acting careers. But last night, the sisters had a disagreement over their fashion sense, namely their choice of It bags.
Ahead of Elle’s Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, the Fannings spent last night at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, where they both opted for nearly all-black looks. Dakota wore a black coat with wide-leg pants and square-toed boots. Elle, meanwhile, wore a vintage Romeo Gigli coat with a brown velvet collar from the Fall 1989 collection, paired with black trousers and pointed-toe shoes.
While the sisters stay consistent on (mostly) monochromatic looks, the sisters have different dogmas when it comes to bags. Dakota opted for a loud and proud It bag, carrying a slouchy black Balenciaga City bag slung in the crook of her elbow. Meanwhile, Elle went if you know, you know With stylish Dalia baguettes from The Row.
When it comes to our bag choices, we all have to ask ourselves a question: Would you choose a classic option that’s sure to come and go from trend cycle, or would you prefer an understated option with equal longevity and anonymity? Basically, are you Elle or Dakota?
