Poorna Jagannathan on Bringing ‘Deli Boys’’ Fabulously Mean, Mugler-Wearing Lucky Back for Season 2

Abdullah Said deli boy It premiered with a bang last year and quickly became one of the most energetic, fun, and well-rendered shows on streaming. Now back for a second season, the Hulu series follows two Pakistani-American brothers as they struggle to run their late father’s crime syndicate.

The dynamic between Mir and Raj Dal (Asif Ali and Sagar Sheikh respectively) is as silly and enjoyable as ever, but it I’ve never had Star Poorna Jagannathan ruthlessly steals the show as the boys’ lucky aunt. A long-time companion of the Dahl brothers’ father, Lucky is always well-dressed and completely unburdened by conscience – but in season two deli boyHer world expands in a new relationship with crime boss Max Sugar (Fred Armisen).

This week, Fashion Chatted with Jagannathan about vulnerability and the limits of power, developing an on-screen romance with Armisen, and drawing fashion inspiration from her character.

Fashion: What kind of feeling does it describe? slightly The softer side of Lucky Season 2?

Poona Jagannathan: marvelous. Simply giving her a love interest also gives her a built-in backstory, as she has to learn how to have a relationship, which she may not be good at. She probably killed everyone who disagreed with her. [Laughs.] She had to learn how to be vulnerable and open, and she had to be forced into therapy, which you couldn’t imagine her doing. It also sees Max Sugar having the kind of power she wants; I don’t know if you noticed this, but Fred’s character never does any of the dirty work himself, it’s all delegated. Luckily, oh, if I were the boss and could actually delegate and have actual operational people to help me instead of these two complete idiots, this would be my life. It’s a world that’s super attractive and sexy to her.

What was it like working with Fred Armisen?

The most interesting thing about working with Fred was watching him. When writing a joke, I’ll do whatever it takes to grab it and amplify it, make sure it lands and make sure it’s delivered, but Fred would just yes with jokes. He just doesn’t chase it. He lets the jokes happen naturally. He is a comedy legend.
