Soft Chrome Nails Are a Springtime Twist on the Shimmering Trend

Season after season, the chrome manicure trend continues. From Dua Lipa to Hailey Bieber and Zendaya, gold-plated manicures have proven their sparkle staying power. But this spring and summer, it’s time to consider a season-appropriate update: soft chrome nails. They’re more sophisticated and minimalist than their high-gloss predecessors, and pair perfectly with spring pastel tones and subtle appliqués.

Has anyone been doing soft chrome nails? Celebrity favorite Kim Truong, you can often see him painting the fingers of everyone from Addison Rae to Rihanna and Kim Kardashian. During a recent appearance by pop star Becky G, Truong created what she calls a “sugar chrome starburst” manicure. She started with Olive and June, nude gel polish The Queen Takes Her Tea With Milk as her base, and added the upcoming Sugar Chrome palette set. She then decorated Becky’s set with some celestial jewelry and cosmic stars.

“I think soft chrome is trending because it feels like a natural evolution of the ‘quiet luxury’ aesthetic we’re seeing,” Truong said. “Clients still want something premium and reflective, but not too bold or metallic. These soft nudes, pale pinks and pastels with chrome finishes can deliver the same dramatic effect but feel more wearable and effortless – especially in spring and summer.”

“Soft chrome offers the best of both worlds: It’s eye-catching yet discreet at the same time,” says Sarah Crespo, director of education for the Americas at The GelBottle, affirming the balance that soft chrome nails achieve. “As trends continue toward softer, more natural aesthetics, chrome adds just enough edge to make the look feel intentional rather than bland. Even the smallest base can make a statement when you add a sophisticated chrome finish.”

“The reflective finish adds dimension and ultimate shine, so even the simplest colors feel more luxurious and dramatic,” says manicurist Hannah Taylor, who credits Hailey Bieber with popularizing the original look and maintaining it in her latest styles.
