The collaboration between Japanese clothing giant Uniqlo and Danish fashion fairy tale master Cecilie Bahnsen will bring you a summer romance. The new project grew out of a chance meeting between designer and retailer R&D director Yukihiro Katsuta at the opening of a new store in Copenhagen. “When they suggested we should collaborate, I thought it would be a great way to tell our story,” Bahnsen said, explaining that she saw a connection between Uniqlo’s focus on everyday wear and her own approach to “everyday fashion” design. This one-off collection is themed “Shapes of Poetry” and is designed to move effortlessly and beautifully through sunny spring and summer days. The atmosphere is definitely blue sky.
Uniqlo LifeWear’s tops, skirts, skirts and dresses are available in eight women’s styles and five girls’ styles. Jersey is the main material used, and Benson finds it brings a “softer romanticism” than her usual organza, poplin and tulle. Red and pink tones paired with gray, black and white sweatshirts, as well as ruffles, florals and gathered details are all Bahnsen’s signature elements. There are two main silhouettes: one loose and frilly, and the other ruched and more fitted. “It’s a constant balance between romance and minimalism, and kind of getting back to the essence of these knitted dresses,” says Bahnsen, who emphasizes that the pieces can be worn as a total look or as a mix-and-match style.
Sisterhood is a theme that the designer returns to again and again in her work, and a theme that also appears in the collaboration’s campaign, which was shot in Japan by sisters Louise and Maria Thornfeldt, who have long been part of the Bahnsen work family. On a personal front, the designer is looking forward to “eating like strawberries and dressing like strawberries” in the Danish countryside this summer with her two young nieces.
The Uniqlo and Cecilie Bahnsen Spring/Summer 2026 collections will be available in all Uniqlo stores from March 21, 2026.
