Dhaka – Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on behalf of Parliament for being named one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2026 by Time magazine.
“His honor means the country’s honor; the Prime Minister has brought honor to this country. On behalf of myself and the Parliament, I sincerely congratulate him and express my gratitude,” he said in Parliament today.
The Chief Whip pointed out that Tariq Rahman returned to his homeland after spending 17 years abroad and brought new hope to the citizens.
“Spurred on by this hope, the people of the country overwhelmingly elected him and elected him to parliament. The people expected a lot from him,” he said.
He then recited a poem for the prime minister.
Speaking on the floor of the House of Representatives, Deputy Speaker Qaiser Kamal said the recognition went beyond personal achievements.
He told MPs today: “This achievement is not just his achievement alone, it is the achievement of our entire country, in fact the entire country.”
The list published by the New York magazine yesterday includes global figures such as US President Donald Trump, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Pope Leo XIV, Benjamin Netanyahu, Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
