It’s a troublesome side effect of aging: eyebrows, like hair, lose density over time. “This can be due to hormonal changes and factors like stress or lack of nutrition,” says makeup artist Arturo Alba. “Follicles produce finer hairs more slowly, which can reduce brow density over time.” Don’t forget that the era of over-plucking—ahem, from the currently popular ’90s—resulted in super-thin brows that never really fully grow back.
But hope is not lost. Just because the hair doesn’t grow on its own, you can still fake it. Here are three ways to get thicker, defined brows.
Clean carefully
Alba and Monica Ceño are both founders of The Lab Room (which tends to Fashion Editor) said the rest of the day’s products were truly frowned upon. “It weakens hair follicles and causes hair loss,” says Senio. That’s why it’s so important to completely remove makeup and nourish your brows at the end of the day.
“An eyebrow is still a hair fiber, even on the face,” Alba added. “Try using a serum with biotin or peptides, and moisturize with an oil like castor oil. With proper care, you can slow the impact of products on your brows.”
Highlighter Tips
It’s The Lab Room’s signature instant brow technique: Place a creamy highlighter just under your brow, on the brow bone. “This positioning visually lifts the brows, making them appear more defined and smooth,” says Senio.
A good diet for your hair
Hair all over your body will benefit from a diet rich in vitamins A, B, C, E and omega-3. Foods like eggs, chia seeds, and vitamins can help, and even kefir (which contains zinc, iron, and protein) can help.
