I never shy away from short shorts, I love colorful cardigans (powder blue, pastel pink and buttery yellow), I love poplin pants (I wear them all year round, from sun to snow) and I consider myself the ultimate Dôen girl. So when I got the chance to visit the brand’s newly opened Madison Avenue flagship store in New York City last week, I was so excited that I almost felt giddy. After opening their downtown Bleecker Street store, this move uptown felt like a natural evolution—merging the easy-going elegance of California with the restraint and elegance of the East Coast.
Dôen’s spring staples:
Designed with long-time collaborator Nickey Kehoe Interior Design, the new boutique is both understated luxury with rustic wood floors, dressing rooms with delicate floral rugs, and a palette of pale blues and emerald greens, with velvet footstools, cabinets filled with antique treasures, and accents of tassels and crystal chandeliers. But the glowing background isn’t the only thing worth noting. The shelves are packed with signature Dôen pieces, which is the real highlight and the real reason for my visit—from elegant dresses in luxe satin and crisp poplin, to silky lace-trimmed separates and transitional outerwear in suede and structured canvas. The new flagship store is also home to the brand’s 10th anniversary capsule collection. The best part? Each piece lends itself to a variety of looks—pair them together for a head-to-toe Dôen look, or mix them into a more pared-down wardrobe, as shown below.

Smooth separates and sorbet shades
In addition to versatile dresses, Dôen’s silky lace separates were the brand’s first claim to fame. During spring and summer, the mini Iona shorts are the standout—often selling out instantly and having a waiting list. The slim silhouette comes in shades of sea salt white, lime green and peach, suitable for a variety of key styling methods. Here, I paired mine with a matching sleeveless sweater and a pair of classic black kitten-heel pumps (don’t overlook Dôen’s shoe selection, which often costs under $300). For a welcome contrast, I tied the brand’s powder-blue Petra cardigan around my shoulders. Warm summer nights are just around the corner, and this look is perfect for it—especially in these delicious sorbet shades.
