Vientiane – Laos and Thailand reaffirmed their long-standing friendship and commitment to strengthen cooperation during the state visit of Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida Bajra Sudabimalakshana to Laos.
The visit, which took place at the invitation of President Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife from March 16 to 18, highlighted the two countries’ shared vision of deepening good-neighborly relations and a strategic partnership for sustainable growth and development.
On Tuesday, the Lao Presidential Palace held a formal welcome ceremony, and Lao leaders warmly and solemnly received the Thai royal delegation.
After the ceremony, President Thongloun Sisoulith met with His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen as well as senior officials from both countries.
President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed deep appreciation for the significance of this visit and believed that it was a historic milestone that reflected the common desire of the people of Laos and Thailand to further strengthen cooperation in the future.
On behalf of the Lao government and people, the President expressed deep condolences for the death of Her Majesty the Queen Mother Sirikit, praising her as a deeply respected figure whose contributions transcended Thailand and benefited the Lao people.
The President also expressed his gratitude to members of the Thai royal family for their numerous initiatives in Laos, especially in education, agriculture and public health, which have helped strengthen Laos’ socio-economic development.
Both sides noted with satisfaction the steady development of bilateral relations in the 76 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations on December 19, 1950.
Cooperation has been continuously expanded in many fields, bringing tangible benefits to both countries.
His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn expressed his gratitude to the Lao government and people for their warm reception and reiterated Thailand’s commitment to maintaining a stable and lasting partnership with Laos.
President Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife accompanied the Thai royal delegation to visit the Lao Traditional Silk Palace, and were warmly received by Deputy Prime Minister Sharonxay Konmasi and other senior officials.
The visit showcased Laos’ rich weaving traditions and high-quality craftsmanship.
In the evening, their Majesties will attend a traditional Baz ceremony, followed by a state banquet in their honor at the Presidential Palace.
This state visit marks another important step for Laos and Thailand to strengthen close relations, further promote cooperation, and promote common prosperity and regional stability.
