Tonight, Zendaya attended the premiere of Roma. drama Wearing a black Armani Privé gown with embellished, very low scoop neck and structured waist. The silhouette is familiar—yet, that’s the point. Keen red carpet commentators may have noticed that it’s identical to the Armani Privé dress Cate Blanchett wore to last year’s Venice Film Festival. Well, that’s because it’s actually hers.
This clever trick fits the bridal theme of Zendaya’s latest movie and is something “borrowed” for the actress. (Zendaya recently re-wore her white Vivienne Westwood dress from the 2015 Oscars as “hand-me-down” at the Los Angeles premiere, raising suspicions about such strategic dressing.) Image stylist Law Roach confirmed the theory on Instagram, posting on his Story: “Thank you Cate Blanchett.”
Right now, no one is riffing on outfits better than Blanchett — she already wore a specific Armani Privé look to the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards ahead of the Venice Film Festival. For seasoned red carpet attendees, redressing is a common occurrence. This awards season, Fashion One of its inaugural awards is even called the “Cate Blanchett Sustainability Award for Best Vintage or Archive Fashion.” However, there was a time when clothing duplication was somewhat taboo as an industry counterpart.
