What Should Coachella Festival Style Look Like in 2026?

Emma Spector, culture writer, Fashion

I’ve only been to one music festival in my life (it was in Brittany, France, where I got drunk, started speaking fluent French, and then somehow lost both my shoes), but the people who looked the coolest were mostly just wearing stuff they already owned, rather than something they’d obviously bought “for the festival.” This is my default stance on Coachella style: Repurpose, don’t shop! Turn a scarf into a bandeau, take something you already own to the local dye bath, cut jeans into shorts—and more. Save your money on those overpriced holiday drinks and accommodation!

Think less about Instagram looks and more about functional gear. Of course, clothes will get dirty during the holidays, but there’s no reason why they should be disposable. Pair your crochet bra with a pair of Blundstones or your cowboy boots with a quarter-zip trench coat. Let’s bring back Gorpcore Music Festival.

I’m feeling a little sad considering the cookie-cutter overconsumption that’s been going on over Coachella weekend and throughout the festival, so I’ll go for a vintage look: probably a breezy, see-through Prada Spring 2000 slip, paired with a neon pink bra and panty set from Fruity Booty. Leave it at home and give The RealReal’s most beat-up Miu Miu sneakers one last chance at life. Oh, and I’ll definitely make time on my way to the Valley to go to Mitchells Palm Springs and pick up some nice, wicked sunglasses or a Pucci scarf – ethical and desert dust friendly.

The last festival I attended was the 2017 Governors Ball. I will probably never go to Coachella, but if I were to go, I would wear a simple suit and comfortable shoes, like a pair of jelly sandals. Gone are the days of wearing something cute to a music festival! Your shoes are ruined and potty situations at festivals are so gross, so I wanted to keep my outfit as simple as possible.
