Scott is known for playing Princess Jasmine in Disney’s 2019 live-action film Aladdin— yes, the one with Will Smith playing Genie — but she also appears in the Netflix series Anatomy of a Scandal (2022) and smile 2 (2024). She is a singer-songwriter in her own right, having released EPs in 2014 and 2016. In March of this year, Scott will release her first full-length album, As shown in the pictureThis follows the release of four singles last year.
The latest of these singles, “Losing You,” was released last week with a music video directed, produced, written and edited by Norman Wilson. The result is disjointed, claustrophobic, and strange, focusing on close-ups, mirrors, and an inexplicable roast chicken with a broken heart tattooed on it.
As Norman Wilson recounts in his book Baffle thesis, he is a video artist who has achieved significant institutional success, with work exhibited at the Whitney Museum, Museum of Modern Art PS1, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, as well as at several international biennials, including the Gwangju Biennial. The article was most praised for its unsparing description of the financial instability faced by artists (even successful ones), while also painting a bleak picture of the gig economy that many creatives currently find themselves in.
Anyway, check out the video he shot of Scott:
