Nail art is the perfect blank canvas to reflect your personality, mood and current trends. Whether you prefer minimalism (hello, micro French) or maximalism (gem nails, anyone?), there’s one nail shape that’s the perfect base for any design: the long almond.
This versatile look with long almond nails has been seen on celebrities like Dua Lipa, Blackpink’s Lisa and Selena Gomez, as well as on the runways of Tom Ford and Schiaparelli. Here’s everything you need to know about the universally flattering shape.
What shape are long almond nails?
“Imagine the shape of a real almond,” says manicurist Naomi Yasuda Fashion. “The nail is wider at the base and tapers at the top, ending in a soft, rounded tip.”
Manicurist Juan Alvear says it’s the perfect balance when you want to add length but don’t want it to feel aggressive. “It reads like a natural extension of the finger.”
“It’s a classic shape because it never goes out of style. It looks natural and elegant and makes everyone’s hands look beautiful,” adds Yasuda.
How to keep long nails healthy?
From natural nails to Gel “It depends on the structure. Proper apex, clean sidewalls, and support through stress points,” Alvill said, adding that most damage comes from over-filing the nails.
Yasuda agrees, noting that it’s important not to file down the sides of your nails too much or they will crack. She also recommends using cuticle oil every day, even if you’re not using gel polish. “You should always use a nail strengthener or apply a few coats of regular nail polish to give them a protective layer.”
