It’s a marked departure from Perry’s on-stage and off-duty style. The Lifetimes tour brought her style back together by bringing joy to all of her most bizarre fashion eras: cyborg (a Blue Origin reference?) metallic bodysuit, mint candy cane-hip latex dress, and marshmallow moon boots california girls It seems that a prism– A jungle-style Dolce & Gabbana bustier and grass skirt, and a jumpsuit made of jingling red baubles. Valentino, Moschino and The Blondes often appear in her gorgeous clothing collections. On the fashion week circuit, she’s a loyal front rower for Demna’s Balenciaga; on the daily, it’s oversize jeans, graphic T-shirts and furry Charlotte Simone coats.
As a political plus (again, Trudeau resigned last year and the first lady title is an American concept), Perry opted for a more conservative, safe mix and a quieter palette. Whimsy still floats beneath the surface, staying true to the youthful label and a slightly subversive sleeve here and there. She is a far cry from the serious, tough images of US First Lady Melania Trump. New York’s first lady, Rama Duwaji, is the blueprint for the sophisticated politician’s companion aesthetic, bringing her artistic sensibility and effortlessly chic perspective to it, wearing vintage, indie designers and glamorous Miista boots. From brooches to ball gowns and borrowed archival looks, the sartorial sensibility of a politician’s spouse can tell a story about her partner’s (or her own) politics and priorities.
it hasn’t even been one year Since Perry began her three-minute interstellar float with the all-female Blue Origin team, the crew has worn cobalt blue body-shaping spacesuits designed by Mons with Skims underneath. She takes the role very seriously, while still reveling in the sleeker flight suits: “We’re turning ‘butts’ into astronauts!” she says. Clearly, Perry would be happy to take on these politically relevant roles if she could keep her sense of humor and style intact.

Perry is no stranger to major style shifts, moving beyond the established pretentious, tacky heavy looks (pink poufs, sexy jumpsuits, ’50s circle skirts) in favor of sexy and serious silhouettes from Rick Owens and Balenciaga, as well as dark, moody tones from understated designers like La Maskarade, Du Ciel and XI SCORPII. Don’t expect the “Woman’s World” singer to give up any personal style in favor of something bland and politically friendly. Katy Perry is a chameleon, so it will be interesting to see how the First Lady’s cosplay develops post-Davos.
