Shayne Kybartas and Miles Johnson first met each other remotely while studying art at Montana State University. “Amidst the sea of cowboy hats and agriculture majors, I remember thinking, ‘This guy might be the funniest person I’ve ever met here,'” Shane recalled. Myers shared that when he saw Shane across the hall, he was “immediately hooked.”
However, they didn’t actually meet until they signed up for the same design publishing course the following year. “I was trying to play it cool, but deep down, I was so excited because I knew I was going to be in class with him for the next few years,” Shane said. While the two have a close relationship in the classroom, they mostly exchange design critiques and collaborate on projects. “Eventually, the time we spent together became less professional and more romantic, and we began our relationship right after Shane graduated,” Myers recalled. “I know…it was a little late, but my perseverance was strong and obviously everything worked out.”
Since then, Shane and Miles have settled in Portland, Oregon and started their design careers. Seven years later, Myers said, “It was time to get everyone together and ask the big question.” He spent six months searching for the perfect emerald-cut stone for Shayne’s engagement ring, telling no one about his plans except her parents, who gave him their blessing. In October 2023, Miles finally proposed. “We were hiking in the Dolomites and this sound of music “In the dream, Miles began to project a dreamlike feel of rolling green hills and gray-blue mountains—something that had basically never been seen before,” Shane recalled. “He insisted that I follow him down a mountain we had just climbed (which I reluctantly did), and out of nervousness he got down on both knees instead of one and said he wanted to spend the rest of his adventures by my side. Then he pulled out the ring—a custom emerald cut ring he had designed—and I realized I was getting exactly what I wanted.” The next two weeks were spent celebrating their engagement in Italy and Spain.
For the couple, choosing a wedding venue was a more difficult decision. “Our vision was completely different,” Shane noted. “Miles wanted a casual, buffet-style mountain wedding; I wanted a romantic, table-on-the-grass vibe in California, but without feeling cliche.” When they came across Sea Ranch Lodge on the Northern California coast, it felt like the perfect compromise. “When we first arrived at Sea Ranch for our trip, I was blown away,” Myers shared. “Honestly, I feel so lucky to be able to marry my lady in this incredible place.”
With the date set for April 12, 2025, planning is in full swing. Shayne spearheaded the execution alongside their planner, Callista Osborn of Callista and Co. “Her taste and style matched my obsession with detail, plus the type A organization we desperately needed,” explains the bride.
Shayne adopted a “look good, feel good” mentality when deciding on her wedding weekend outfit. After trying them on in six different bridal shops, she couldn’t stop being obsessed with Vivienne Westwood dresses. “It was a little out of our price range, but I’ve always believed that if I feel good, everything else will fall into place,” she shared. Shayne paired the dress with six-inch silver Valentino platforms for added height and stability on the cliffside. “And, to be honest, I’m not a white-shoes kind of girl,” she added. To express her emotion, she paid homage to her grandmother by wearing her diamond earrings and bracelet. For her beauty look, Shayne wanted to look natural: hair extensions and a ’90s blowout that were “refined enough to give a bridal feel, but still very me,” she says.
