A trip to Norway can satisfy both tourists and leisure enthusiasts. In Oslo, you can visit the country’s largest collection of art, architecture and design at the National Museum, or enjoy the health benefits in the Oslo Fjord’s floating saunas, where in the summer people lie in the sun and jump into the clear water. Or take the Flåm Railway and stop at the Kjosfossen waterfall, where you will see a mysterious woman in a red dress dancing on the cliff to Norwegian folk music. (It remains one of the wildest things I have ever seen, and the village of Flåm itself, despite being a tourist attraction, has a whimsical and otherworldly feel.)
There are also some exciting new hotel openings, such as the Yrti Island Retreat by Relais & Chateaux, scheduled to open in April 2026 in one of the country’s oldest fishing communities on Isla Terrena. If you’re looking for solid options, you can’t go wrong with 62° Nord’s charming trio of hotels (Storfjord, Hotel Union Øye and Brosundet), which are dotted around the dramatic fjords that wind inland from the port town of Alesund. If you’re more gastronomically adventurous, try one of the new restaurants on the Michelin star list, such as Gaptrast in Bergen and Omakase in Sergey Pak. ——Anna Grace Lee
