Thai cabinet approves over 5 billion baht to bolster armed forces

by The Tamesis

December 24, 2025

Bangkok – The Cabinet approved central budget funds for the Royal Thai Army to purchase additional equipment to enhance personnel capabilities in the amount of 206 million baht, Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat said at Government House on Tuesday, December 23.

He said details remained confidential but stressed the government’s increased ability to support the military.

Siripong added that the Cabinet also approved the Ministry of National Defense to use the contingency reserve for emergencies or essential goods in the central budget for fiscal year 2026 to provide additional support to the armed forces through the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, Army, Navy and Air Force, totaling 5.05 million baht.

He said the details were also confidential, but the decision was intended to demonstrate the government’s full support for those tasked with protecting Thailand’s sovereignty.

He said the National Security Council (NSC) also sought cabinet approval to amend the August 5 cabinet resolution that set compensation standards for those affected by the situation on the Thailand-Cambodia border, covering the events from July 16 to August 2.

Since the previous resolution excluded from the criteria those affected after August 2, including soldiers injured by landmines and persons affected by subsequent conflicts, the National Security Council proposed to extend the same compensation framework from July 16, using the existing budget range, until the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border returns to normal.

Compensation rates will remain unchanged.
