Skater Sneakers Are Back! Shop Our Favorite Pairs

The skate sneaker renaissance is quietly underway. From early streetwear star Jennifer Lawrence, who had a penchant for Vans Old Skools and brightly colored Authentic lace-ups, to Zoë Kravitz’s favorite black loafers, these 2000 skateboarding staples have begun to make their way back into fashion. When the Valentino x Vans collaboration showed up on the Fall/Winter 2025 runways in Paris in a striking checkerboard print colorway, we knew they were a sneaker trend that needed our immediate attention, and the buzz just keeps growing.

Now, with spring footwear in full swing, we’re seeing the skater effect come full circle—although today’s spin-off feels more nuanced and polished, a far cry from the early “Sk8ter Boi” vibe (sorry Avril Lavigne). High-end designers are currently choosing to emulate OG sneaker shapes that were originally inspired by canvas deck shoes, such as those historically introduced by Vans in the 1960s. All styles follow a minimalist philosophy but still feature decisive details that continue to make them feel so cool and relevant (first of all, the round toe and rubber sole).

Jacquemus offers a buttery yellow and off-white canvas lace-up sneaker with the same thick rubber sole and subtle branding, while Row goes for sleek simplicity, blending an effortless look with a contrasting platform sole. We’ve noticed that Prada and Miu Miu are starting to see more iterations (and even an embellished pair) that are really bridging the gap between deck shoes, skate culture, and modern fashion style. To look forward to, images of Phoebe Philo’s much-anticipated “Collection E” have recently begun circulating, featuring familiar platform shoes peeking out of loose trousers—an idea the designer often repeated during his tenure at Céline—and there’s more to come once the collection officially drops in June.

Ahead, shop our favorite skate sneakers, from classic canvas lace-ups to leather loafers, as well as those with a trend-forward appeal—all ready to complete your spring look.
