It can be hard to dress for the winter on the West Coast, but if anyone knows how to wear a coat while out and about in West Hollywood, it’s Selena Gomez.
The Rare Beauty mogul and pop star headed to friend Brooks Nader’s birthday dinner last night (February 8). She opted for an all-black look dominated by leather: a buttery-smooth jacket with chin-length fold-down lapels and a thick cinched belt, paired with cropped split cigarette pants, pointed-toe pumps, and an oversized elongated leather tote with long curved handles. (Anyone whose handbag regularly slips off her shoulder when wearing a winter coat knows how important this detail is.) Gomez wore her hair pulled back into a low bun with a soft side parting and wore black oval sunglasses.

Monochrome is Selena Gomez’s calling card, and over the years she’s developed a sophisticated, ladylike style and established herself as a fan of the little black dress (LBD). Most recently, she wore a black Magda Butrym floral-embellished blazer as a minidress at the Rare Beauty launch, and opted for a velvet black Chanel gown with white feathers at the bust at the 2026 Golden Globes, wearing matching black tuxedos with husband Benny Blanco.
But where does Gomez really shine? In her most leisurely moments, andshe can pull out her stash of jackets and knitwear when the Los Angeles air gets a little chilly. Consider Khaite, Toteme, Susanna Chow and La Ligne for cool layering and understated, assured outerwear. This softly structured leather jacket is the latest mid-season star.
