The glamor of Old Hollywood was the core inspiration for Rose Byrne’s glamor at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. “Events like the Golden Globes are completely divorced from my real life,” said the actor, who was nominated for best actress for her role in the heartbreaking film If I had legs I would kick you– Tell Fashion Only. “It was fun working with my team to create a complete cohesive vision.”
The red carpet vision began with a custom-made Chanel emerald green draped silk gown embroidered with glass pearls and crystals: more than 4,660 embroidered elements that took 210 hours (nearly nine days!) to complete. “Matthew [Blazy] It brings such a freshness to Chanel while still retaining its signature chic,” Byrne said. “I love the beautiful, simple elegance of this dress in such a bold color. It’s a very unique and very Chanel combination. I also love the detail on the back of the dress, and the hint of drama on the train. ” In terms of jewelry, Byrne’s look included two pieces from Chanel’s tweed collection (Frangé earrings and Brodé ring), and an 18K white gold Motif Russe bracelet.
When it came to perfectly matching glam, Byrne called on longtime makeup artist James Molloy. “We took inspiration from the 1940s and focused on elegance and ease of wear, keeping the look contemporary,” he said, adding that ease of wear was the focus. “It’s all about balance. Clothes, hair and jewelry naturally guide the direction of makeup, but how it makes you feel is just as important.”
Byrne agrees. “As I’ve grown up, I find it fun to incorporate that into red carpet moments, from gowns to glam, to create an overall cohesive visual.” She adds that Molloy taught her some important things about glamor, both on a red carpet level and in everyday wear. “Brows are essential to defining the face and James always does them beautifully.”
But you can’t channel Old Hollywood without a red lip. “Shapes are intentionally softened and edges blurred, which makes the colors feel more wearable and modern while remaining elegant,” says Molloy. “The diffused red instantly brightens the entire face, especially when paired with youthful, luminous skin. The complexion acts as a fresh canvas, leaving lips feeling confident, effortless, and beautiful.”
When it comes to her role in the show if i had legsThe mother-of-two did a lot of research and spoke with mothers who were in similar situations to her character Linda. “In my research, I spoke to many mothers of children with special needs, which was a real privilege because I heard about the different experiences and impacts on these women’s lives and mental health, and how there wasn’t enough support or dialogue,” Byrne said. “It changed my perspective on motherhood forever.”
There was one piece of advice in particular that she cherished and wanted to share with other mothers. “Take ’em to bed. Early.” That’s it, good night.
