The love story of Eva Noblezada Carney and Reeve Carney—actresses, entertainers, musicians, artists—began on stage (where else?) in a small, “weirdly lit” rehearsal space on Manhattan’s Eighth Avenue. It was June 29, 2017, and Eva was there to audition to play the now musical phenomenon Eurydice in what was then her Broadway debut. Hadestown. Reeve has already confirmed himself in the role of Orpheus.
“Reeve is very cool, confident and friendly. [He was] “Being so locked into the moment so beautifully, it really influenced me to be as present as possible,” Eva recalls. They finished their duet “Wedding Song,” and Reeve returned to the back of the room to watch her finish her audition—and she nailed it. (Two weeks later, she found out she got the role, screaming at the Equinox in Columbus Circle.) The couple kept pushing Hadestown A Tony Award winner for a major achievement.
“I’m lucky to be part of an epic HadestownEva said: “After a Broadway show sparked their relationship, they took the tortured young lovers to London in 2018 to perform at the National Theatre.
Reeve and Eva’s courtship unfolds alongside their intertwined theatrical careers – and their engagement must be played out accordingly. “I’ve been planning this for years!” Reeve said. The pandemic slowed the process — Reeve had a specific location in mind and wanted their family to be there — but when they got the call to reprise their roles Hadestown In the West End, the timing was perfect. Eva gets an extra day in the meantime (March 10, 2025) Hadestown and her first day of rehearsals as Sally Bowles in the show Cabaret On Broadway. “I chose to propose to the love of my life and my best friend on Blackfriars Bridge that day; we walked that bridge together every day to and from the National Theater because we were becoming best friends,” Reeve said. The ZHL String Quartet was scoring their proposal as Reeve got down on one knee. (The group played out over a date-night dinner at Sarastro’s in Covent Garden, and Reeve surreptitiously grabbed their business cards with the plan in mind.)
Choosing New Orleans as their wedding destination also reflected their romantic arc. Reeve has long wanted to take Eva to the city, where he has performed regularly for 15 years. They drove together across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway into the city before officially getting engaged on June 29, 2021, after two years of dating. “I realized later that day that it was the fourth anniversary of the day we met,” Reeve said. Within hours of setting foot on the cobblestones of the French Quarter, Eva and Reeve knew, “This is where we need to have our ‘celebration’…” (They called it their wedding, before they officially got engaged.) “We talked to the family over FaceTime and told them about the situation, and they said, ‘Is there anything you want to tell us?'” We said, ‘Oh, no, not yet… but this is where we want to be!’ ‘”
