Kathmandu – Protests broke out in Kathmandu after the government decided to fire Kulman Ghising as managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

The demonstrations took place in Banevar-sur-Mitnia region, with protesters condemning the dismissal. See protesters reading positive slogans against the government with placards on their backs, such as “Where is the government? Cut down electricity and remove Kurman.”

Authorities deployed a large number of security personnel as protesters tried to violate the restricted area of Baneshwar, located near the parliament building.

Despite facing criticism from KP Sharma Oli and Energy Minister Dipak Khadka, Ghising defended his efforts to force the industry to repay its outstanding dues and clarified his position in several times.

The government’s decision not only comes from the opposition party, but also faces opposition from leaders of the ruling Nepal’s parliament.

Excitingly vowed to challenge the firing in court. The impact of such leadership on the Nepal power sector is unclear due to the uncertainty of the future of NEA.
