Princess Diana’s Favorite Shoe Shape Is So Back—Say Hello to the Almond Toe

The traditional pump has endured for several seasons after experiencing a major comeback. Ladylike shoe shapes come in many forms, but in 2026 the almond toe shoe shape will stand out.

What it looks like: Smooth, slightly pointed V-shaped toes, like almonds. The heel and upper (the upper part of the shoe) have different heights and levels of coverage respectively. But for the most part, the 2026 triumphant version leaned more toward an ’80s aesthetic—which isn’t surprising, considering the jewel tones and sturdy shoulders that were all over the catwalk.

Almond-toe shoes remained a favorite style of Princess Diana throughout the ’80s, when she established enduring wardrobe classics with pieces like Lady Dior handbags, houndstooth blazers, bike shorts paired with slogan sweatshirts, and fabulous tans. During the early days of her marriage and during her many royal appearances, she often chose Chanel’s classic two-tone low heels. This particular style of high heel embodies many of Princess Diana’s dress codes: elegant, effortless, sophisticated, and easy to style.

Throughout the Pre-Fall 2026 collection, nut-shaped heels can be seen everywhere. At Armarium, they are paired with pillbox hats, another 80s accessory that will return in 2026. Khaite’s patent black pumps were paired with a classic pencil skirt for a demure look, while Ganni restyled it into a ballerina version, adding more modern studded details.

In Sea, the still popular ballet pumps are almond-shaped, but more and more people are using high heels to increase their height. Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham, for example, both elongated their legs with stiletto styles and paired them with leggings. Again, the 80s.

On the streets, almond toes have transcended the “granny shoe” stigma and integrated into it-girl fashion. Look no further than Aeyde or cool-girl brands like Chloë Sevigny and Katie Holmes’ favorite Jude, Le Monde Beryl and Kendall Jenner’s go-to Studio Amelia. Put on your best performance!
