This year, as the world rekindles its obsession with Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Rhode founder Hailey Bieber has locked in a new It Girl to represent her brand: Sarah Pidgeon, who plays Bessette-Kennedy in the Ryan Murphy film Love Story: John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Caroline Bassett.
“Playing Caroline was an incredible experience,” Pidgeon told me over the phone. She just walked on the SAG Awards red carpet, marveling at this moment in her career but also learning lessons from playing Bessette Kennedy. “There is a lot to be said about the line between public and private life. When the transition [into Carolyn]I tried to understand her relationship to being perceived and presented. I learned a lot about how to tell stories with fashion. “
Beauty is also part of storytelling. The first time I saw Pidgeon was while watching the Tony Award-winning play stereo, In it she plays a singer-songwriter named Diana. Pidgeon was brunette at the time (her natural skin tone) with long, ’70s-style waves. Soon after, she underwent a whirlwind blonde transformation and became Caroline Bassett Kennedy. Multiple bleachings followed.
“When I see pictures of myself with brown hair, it’s just as shocking as the first time I saw myself as blonde,” she says of her chameleon-like transformation. love story. “But I feel like I’m entering a new chapter in my life, and it’s exciting to enter that phase with different hair. My blonde hair makes my clothes feel different. I’m attracted to different colors now.”

“It took me quite a while to get my hair this light, so I’m going to keep rocking blonde hair until I change my mind or have to change my hair for another character,” she continued. “There are so many different shades and shades of blonde to explore.”
When I asked her how she felt about pink (a color sometimes associated with blondes) now, La Barbie – The answer is surprising. “It’s funny because I think when I was brunette, I hated pink more,” Pidgeon said. Cut to the night before our conversation, when she attended the Actors Awards wearing a pale pink Balenciaga dress. “I do know that there is a natural connection between blonde and pink,” she continued. “But I actually enjoy using the color, especially when it comes to a product like blush, it feels fresh.” Her Rhode campaign showcases two new Pocket Blush shades: raspberry-pink Teacup and warm red Candy Apple, as well as two new peptide lip treatments (pearlescent pink Sweet Pea and fuchsia Pretzel). New phone cases are also coming soon, with all products arriving on March 9th (although you can sign up for the waitlist now).
