Manila – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will visit Naga City on Saturday, February 21, where he is expected to meet former presidential rival and current Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced on Thursday.
Castro said the visit will focus on the “Oplan Kontra Baha” project that the government will implement in Naga City.

“The staff of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are currently busy cleaning drains, esters and rivers in Naga City. This is where our President will be visiting and he will indeed be visiting Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo on Saturday, February 2021, to accompany him,” Castro said in a press conference in Filipino.
Asked whether Marcos and Robredo would engage in discussions beyond flood control activities, Castro said it was best to wait and see.
“This is what you should pay attention to. This is the only information provided because the president has just launched Oplan Kontra Baha and one of the areas he is focusing on is Naga City. So, that’s it. As for what else they will discuss, we will just have to wait and see,” Castro said.
It’s too early to talk about politics
Castro added that it was too early to discuss alliances or other matters related to the 2028 elections, although some analysts have mentioned Robredo as a potentially strong candidate against Vice President Sara Duterte, who announced his presidential bid at a news conference on Wednesday.
“There really hasn’t been any discussion about the campaign or who might be a candidate in 2028,” Castro said. “It’s not the time yet, it’s too early for anyone to announce whether they will run or not. It’s too early for a political campaign. We have a lot to address in our country and a lot of interests for our fellow citizens that need attention.”
“So it’s too early to say who will run in 2028,” she added.

In 2022, Robredo ran for president, but lost to Marcos, receiving only 14.8 million votes, less than half of Marcos’ 31 million votes.
She later ran in the May 2025 elections and was appointed mayor of Naga City, becoming the first woman to hold the position. /gentlemen
