The $730 million redevelopment includes upgrades to emergency department facilities.
Peninsula University Hospital (formerly Frankston Hospital) will reopen on 20 January 2026 following a US$730 million (AU$1.11) redevelopment designed to reduce waiting times and ambulance drop-off delays while delivering faster, better care.
The 12-storey tower will be able to treat 35,000 more patients a year and add 130 beds, 15 new operating theaters and expand services in mental health, oncology and women’s and children’s care.
A key feature of the hospital is the new Emergency Department, highlighting its mental health, alcohol and other drug centres, dedicated pediatric area and rooftop helipad.
The hospital has been the state’s top performer in safe and timely ambulance and emergency care standards since February 2025, handing over 95% of ambulance patients within the 40-minute goal.
“The dedicated doctors, nurses and frontline staff at the new Peninsula University Hospital now have a world-class facility to provide care to families in this growing region of Melbourne,” Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas said.
