I was born in 1997, a year also known as the “Big Bang” in fashion, when, on the brink of the new millennium, nearly every runway was bursting with vibrant new ideas. It was just a few years removed from Marc Jacobs’ famous Spring 1993 Perry Ellis “grunge collection” and a year before his debut runway show at Louis Vuitton. As a Zillennial, Jacobs was always at the forefront of my fashion consciousness growing up, whether I was still discovering Tumblr and trying to figure out what the “new Marc Jacobs” bag was in the original The queen wears prada Or an enthusiastic young editor competing for a pair of Kiki boots at the 2024 Marc Jacobs-themed trivia night.
For over 40 years, and I’ve been through it for over 28, Jacobs has been an enduring beacon of American fashion. New documentary in his honor Mark Sophiahere are eight of my favorite moments from the Marc Jacobs show.
