Meghan Markle Pairs a New Dress With a Favorite Princess Diana Accessory

Meghan Markle attended the Alliance for Children’s Rights’ 34th Annual Children’s Championship on Thursday night, where she topped off her Montecito style with a new dress and an old, beloved accessory that once belonged to Princess Diana.

The Duchess of Sussex, who walked the red carpet with close friend Kelly McKee Zajfen, chose a strapless navy silk dress by Ralph Lauren and black strappy Stuart Weitzman sandals. At its core is a textbook Meghan Markle look, understated and sophisticated. In terms of accessories, she also kept her favorites from the past: vintage Chanel round gold button earrings, Cartier gold Tank Française watch and Cartier Love bracelet.

A sentimental detail, this timepiece belonged to Princess Diana and was worn by her late mother-in-law on numerous occasions during her own public engagements. After their wedding, Prince Harry gave the watch to Meghan, who often added it to her looks as a low-key, sweet tribute to Diana.

That evening, she was honored to present the Francis M. Wheat Community Service Award to her friend McKee Zajfen. Kelly McKee Zajfen, who has known the royal family for more than 20 years, is the co-founder of Alliance of Moms, a nonprofit that supports pregnant and parenting teens in the foster care system. It is an affiliate of the Children’s Rights Alliance, a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services and advocacy to caregivers, adoptive parents, children and youth in the Los Angeles foster care system.

Ralph Lauren is a staple in the Duchess’s wardrobe, and she wears the brand’s staple ready-to-wear gowns and suits, as well as its more casual secondary line of flowy shirts and trousers that perfectly blend with her Montecito mother’s quietly luxurious aesthetic. However, Meghan embraced a subtle style shift last year, gently experimenting with more glamorous looks. The As Ever founder made a surprise appearance at Paris Fashion Week to support friend Pierpaolo Piccioli, who made his Balenciaga debut in a striking white cape. At the Fifteen Percent gala, she embraced old Hollywood glamor, walking solo on the red carpet in a flowing train gown from Harbison Studios.
