Sometimes, the most unexpected things can completely change the course of your life. When actress Lily Collins and I hopped on the phone to chat, we’re here to talk about some of these things: having a baby, a really good haircut, and an awesome friend.
“I absolutely believe that hair is a gateway to a new person, a new personality, and even a new stage in life,” she says. When we speak, it’s less than 48 hours after it was announced that Collins would play Audrey Hepburn in a film about the transformation of pop culture Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Today, she stars in an ad campaign with longtime beauty partner Mara Roszak and her clean hair care line, Rōz. “Mara doesn’t just do hair, she really listens to how you’re feeling and what you want in a style or cut, and, for women, she just acts as a sounding board,” Collins said.
The two have been working together for nearly 15 years. “When I was 25, Marla cut my hair into a pixie cut. I had always dreamed of it and decided I needed to make a change,” she shared. “I wanted to get rid of all this emotional baggage at the same time. And I think for a lot of women, when we feel different, we like to change our hair. That cut put me completely in a [different] place. ” For Lily Collins, her current stage in life is being a new mother to Netflix star baby girl Tove Jane emily in parisWait—she says with a relaxed attitude: “My short hair best represents the way I look now. It looks really great, but it also feels very curated. It’s also practical because my daughter can’t get her hands on it.”
