Kate Middleton Dresses up for St. David’s Day and Her First Address in Welsh

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus! That’s “Happy St. David’s Day” in Welsh. Kate Middleton (Kate Middleton, Catherine, Princess of Wales) has been brushing up on her command of the Celtic language, just in time for the Day of the Patron Saint.

The royal gave a joint speech alongside her husband, Prince William. Share on their official social media accounts. Prince William began his speech in Welsh at Frogmore House on the Windsor Home Park estate: “Happy St David’s Day to everyone in Wales! It’s a beautiful country with a rich history and wonderful people.”

“Wales is very close to us and we look forward to every visit,” Catherine continued in Welsh. “Wishing you a day full of celebration with your family and friends.”

Catherine chose a pleated houndstooth maxi dress by Alessandra Rich, which featured puff sleeves, buttons and a feminine collar to show off her smile. She accessorized with black Jennifer Chamandi suede pumps, a Mulberry black suede Bayswater clutch, and jewelry including Cartier Trinity earrings, a Spells of Love double-strand necklace, and an Asprey London “Woodland” charm. She wears a daffodil – the official flower of Wales – pinned to her lapel.

She last wore the dress when she visited the V&A Museum’s latest art exhibition in 2021, and she often looks to Rich for sophisticated silhouettes: she’s worn the Italian-London designer on a trip to Ireland and a 2019 trip to Bletchley Park. Her dark hair was slicked down her back and her soft brown smoky eye kept it simple yet elegant.

In May 2021, Kate wore the same Alessandra Rich dress when visiting the V&A Museum.
