Good things take time—and Kasia Kucharska isn’t afraid to take the time. After a season’s break, the Fashion Fund winner returns to Berlin with one of her most personal collections. Inspired by life’s changes, milestones and a little chaos, Kuchaska asked herself, what could be better than compulsively maintaining everything? “Life is constantly changing. Mine has taken a new path – I first had to learn how to refocus in the hustle and bustle.” She puts a lot of effort into fabric development. Take, for example, one of her signature looks: molded latex that hugs the body like a second skin. “We again spent time working on new surface textures. Like the floor-sweeping snake dress, which is one of the most sophisticated pieces in the collection.” It’s one of the many nostalgic memories the young mother has of her own childhood and animated films like “The Jungle Book.”
Another way to cope with busyness is to let it be. Shirt sleeves were knotted together at different parts of the body, hastily tied around the waist, and reworked into skirts and dresses. The precise tailoring looked deliberately rushed and put on quickly, some of it not even finished. Added to this is the mix of modular elements such as leg warmers and sleeves, which lend more weight and volume to the mostly form-fitting silhouette. “We carry more baggage, more ballast, more tasks throughout our lives,” Kuchaska said backstage, picking up one of her new oversized bags, inspired by diaper bags. “But that’s not a bad thing,” she added with a smile. “We keep going. It’s just a little slower sometimes.”
