I’m So Locked In on Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s Foot Thing

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have been through a lot together, especially getting married last year, but this week they made it… unique A new relationship milestone, so to speak. On a recent episode of Blanco’s podcast friends keep secretsGomez planted a kiss on her husband’s feet, which social media users mocked as “dirty” after Blanco went barefoot in the show’s first episode last month.

“Oh, don’t wait!” Gomez complained to Blanco on the podcast after the foot kiss (sorry, Selena, but I officially take responsibility for making this moment happen), to which Blanco responded: “No. I’m not. I love it. It makes me feel good. I love you so much.”

I mean…okay! Look, I just want Gomez and Blanco to be happy, and it would be great if Gomez’s pious, almost religious act of kissing her husband’s feet fulfilled that for them, right?

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the ultimate expression of romantic love—personally, I blame Emerald Fennell for that—and in a weird way, I’m a little mesmerized by the lengths Gomez goes to in expressing love and appreciation for parts of her partner’s body that the internet deems gross. I’ll be the first to admit that my own feet aren’t always that clean (I wear Rick Owens Birkenstocks almost every day, which results in confusing tan lines on my feet and the near-constant need to dunk my toes in the tub), but I still want to be adored!

For example, should men wash their feet before putting them on a clean couch? perhaps! But does it appeal to me that Gomez doesn’t seem to have that presence that I’m sure would have if Blanco failed to do so? Absolutely! as 30 rockLiz Lemon once said during a speech at her ex-boyfriend’s wedding: “Love is weird and sometimes disgusting.”
