Love is a wonderful thing, especially when you look at it from the outside. In this column, we look at the celebrity couples who give us hope for our own romantic futures, while we try to make sense of our own from their well-documented relationships.
I love it when queer people find each other, whether it’s on screen or in real life – so the platonic ideal for me is two queer people dating on TV and then dating in real life. Obviously, I’m talking about Grey’s Anatomy ER Fightmaster star Caterina Scorsone appeared to confirm their relationship this week, having tied the knot several years ago. Gray’s The characters have a brief but unforgettable affair. (I guess this is where my confession comes from, technically I met Fightmaster once at the Altadena Seed Library; if memory serves, they offered to help me lug a bag of topsoil up a flight of stairs and were generally very nice. Now that I’ve got that funny celebrity confession off my chest, go ahead!)
In fact, Fightmaster and Scorsone’s relationship has been an open secret within the Los Angeles LGBTQ+ community for years, and to be fair, they haven’t publicly stated that they’re together yet, but a recent photo of the two holding hands walking out of the Most Likely cafe in Los Angeles seemed telling enough. (And, honestly, it’s probably — hehe — where they are, because I’ve never been there for coffee without meeting at least one woman or non-binary person I’ve been on a hinge date with.)
And the “Fightmaster” and “Scorsone” Gray’s Characters aren’t exactly destined to meet true love — as Fightmaster’s Kay points out before leaving Seattle for a new job, Scorsone’s Amelia really did It’s all about herself – it’s great to see how much these two actors admire each other off-screen. “I took her to a lot of events and she took me to a lot of events,” Fightmaster said of Scorsone in a 2023 interview, going on to describe their time attending WNBA events and volunteering together in high school (yes, that’s a full three years since their relationship was confirmed this week).
The fact that Fightmaster—who, in addition to their acting careers, also performs as a musician under their own surname—and Scorsone has three children with her ex-husband, Rob Giles, is a great reminder that the best (or seemingly best, anyway… I don’t know these people, although my superficial encounter with Fightmaster was adorable!) relationships are often born out of slow-burn friendships. Anyway, uh, when you catch a girlfriend casually quoting Wittgenstein in defense of gender-inclusive terms, grab her with everything you got!
