While the 28-year-old singer is best known for her soprano synth-pop, she’s also cultivated a campy, drag-inspired, pop-culture-infused persona. Chappelle turned to stylist Genesis Webb for help transforming her into a pop star. The two met on the set of an editorial while Weber was assisting Nicola Formichetti and bonded over their Midwestern roots. “Trash is all around us,” Weber told Fashion.
The pair used brands such as Thom Browne, Rodarte and Mugler to create Chappell’s unique identity while also allowing craftsmen and artisans to stand out. Leather artist Zana Bayne creates her WrestleMania Lollapalooza look, VMA armor and saturday night live Cowgirl look, while designer Gunnar Deatherage takes care of her Jazz Age saturday night live promotional appearance and Swan Lake– Inspired clothing.
Roan went from cult favorite to overnight success, culminating with his 2023 debut, The Rise and Fall of a Midwestern Princess, It earned her a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year and a win for Best New Artist. Since then, she’s pushed the boundaries of her sartorial vision, best exemplified by the Mugler nipple ring dress she wore on the 2026 Grammys red carpet, complete with prosthetics and temporary medieval tattoos.
