Intrigued by this quirky approach to layering (and in desperate need of a new sartorial vibe), I decided to put this trend to the test. For my first try, I took inspiration from the Celine Fall 2026 show and paired my best yellow dress shirt with a brown blazer.
Sliding one side of the collar under the lapel, I immediately saw a difference: my custom look became more irreverent and fun. It’s still stylish, but no longer as stuffy or serious.

Next, I took a look from Bottega Veneta and colorblocked it with a blue dress shirt and a pink cable-knit sweater. Tucking in one side of the collar again, I found the dress felt less preppy and more fun and quirky.
There’s definitely something clever about this collar. Similar to the “Olson braid,” in which long hair is tucked into a turtleneck or shirt collar, the half-tied hairstyle conveys a cool nonchalance. Sure, your parents might think you just put on your jumper and forgot to straighten your shirt, but that cool girl sitting next to you in the cafe will think, oh, HourVery Gil Sander.
