After a four-year hiatus, Euphoria Finally came back. On Tuesday night, the show’s all-star cast — Zendaya, Sidney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow and Alexa Demme — came together for the world premiere to celebrate the arrival of the long-awaited third and possibly final season.
Set against the backdrop of Hollywood’s famed TCL Chinese Theater, it transforms into the Wild West, evoking the lawless spirit of adults and the frontier of what’s possible; some of the themes covered in the new season. The red — or rather, brown — carpet spans two city blocks and is decorated with pampas grass, bulgur, tumbleweeds, gravel and giant lava rocks.
Elordi wearing Bottega Veneta was the first to appear, followed by Apatow wearing Celine. Schafer appeared in accessories by Roberto Cavalli. Soon, both Apatow and Schaeffer were howling as Demi strutted down the carpet in a vintage Bob Mackie. Sweeney was next in, wearing a vintage Pierre Cardin dress from her own wardrobe, followed by Zendaya in a figure-hugging halter gown from Ashi Studio. “I can’t stop smiling. It’s so surreal to be at the premiere. We’ve been waiting so long,” Apatow told Us Fashion.
Season three, which airs on HBO Max on April 12, picks up where the previous season left off, jumping five years in time. “I wanted to address faith and belief in something greater than ourselves,” creator Sam Levinson said. “What do we worship in life? What do we believe in? What is true freedom? These ideas feel very validating and exciting.”
Back at the top is Rue, played by Zendaya, who pays off her debt by becoming a drug mule. Rue’s ex-lover Jules is attending art school, but she is nervous about her future career. “Playing Jules again was a great way to reflect on myself when I was her age. Like her, I was starting a new career as an actor and it was a raw moment in my life,” Shaffer told Fashion. “Euphoria It was my first role – which was crazy – but it really helped me grow as an actor. I was really scared in the first season because I didn’t know what I was doing. I have a better understanding of what I do now. I have a toolbox full of things I’ve learned over the years. I definitely feel less scared than I did the first time I walked on set. “
Meanwhile, Cassie and Nate live in the suburbs. “It’s crazy!” Sweeney said of returning to the role of Cassie, a fan-favorite character known for her intense emotional vulnerability, desperate pursuit of love and “ugly crying.” “She’s such a crazy character and it really challenges and pushes me in ways I never dreamed of. It’s really rewarding.” Yes, this season will bring more laugh-out-loud moments. “When I have to cry, it’s emotionally draining and physically demanding at times, but it’s also very rewarding,” Sweeney said. “I get to do what I love and that energizes me.”
