Rumors first began circulating that the King would make a surprise appearance at Tolu Coker’s London Fashion Week show a few weeks ago – and indeed, the always punctual His Highness did sit front row at 180 The Strand on Thursday afternoon, along with the rest of the show.
Of course, King Charles isn’t the first monarch to grace the front row during fashion month. Queen Elizabeth II looked impressive as she attended the Richard Quinn Fall 2018 show, sitting next to Fashion’s global editorial director Anna Wintour, when the designer won the inaugural QEII British Design Award.
In fact, members of the royal family have long been committed to supporting the fashion industry, with Princess Margaret sitting front row at the Dior show at Blenheim Palace as early as 1954, while Princess Diana attended Joe Casely-Hayford’s London Fashion Week show in 1995. Even before she became a member of the royal family, Meghan Markle attended several fashion shows during New York Fashion Week, including ones by the likes of Hervé Léger, Tory Burch and Tracy Reese. 2013. Most recently, she made her Paris Fashion Week debut at Pierpaolo Piccioli’s debut Balenciaga show in October.
Below, take a look at all the royals who have graced the show’s front row over the years.
