A cyberattack was detected on Wednesday against the State Art Collection in Dresden, which remains open but with some operations suspended. The latter includes the museum network’s online shop and visitor services.
It is reported monopol “Much of the digital infrastructure is affected. IT experts and IT forensic service providers are simultaneously cleaning and rebuilding systems,” a statement from the Dresden State Art Collection, a network of about 15 museums in eastern Germany, said on Thursday.
According to reports, the museums are cooperating with the Dresden Police Department and the State Criminal Police Office monopol– added: “It is unclear when all affected systems will be back online.”
“The State Art Collection Dresden (SKD) was the victim of a targeted hacker attack,” a statement from Saxony’s Minister of Culture and Tourism said. “Most of the digital infrastructure was affected. At the same time, the security systems are unaffected and fully functional. Physical and technical security are also intact. The museum remains open to visitors.”
The State Art Collection Dresden organizes exhibitions in venues such as the Green Vault of Dresden Castle, the Old Master Gallery in the Zwinger Palace and the New Master Gallery in the Albertinum Palace. Its valuable collection includes works by Raphael, Rembrandt, Vermeer and Rodin, as well as other artworks from the past to the contemporary realm.
The museum network’s website currently only shows opening hours and a note about “limited availability,” which reads: “Due to a cyberattack, much of the digital infrastructure of the Dresden State Art Collection is currently only available to a limited extent.”
